WIRELESS FIDELITY

Last March 2020, our country was declared under a state of public health emergency because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Metro Manila was put on lockdown to control the spread of the virus and the whole world was holding their breath while the numbers of death rose, and economies plummeted. Travel was suspended, businesses were pushed to halt operations, education was put on hold, and "work-from-home" was implemented to those offices who can afford it. While professionals in other industries have started to adapt to the new norm, we as artists, especially in the live events, were stunned and left hanging. We count the days before each of our projects call to cancel. We do not know how we will survive the next few days, weeks, months, or maybe even years. But we know one thing - nothing is tragic enough to make us stop creating.

For more than three months since the lockdown, I have cleared my supposedly busy production and photoshoot schedule and watched my camera stay untouched. I scroll on my social media timelines and see posts from my performer circle having a hard time adjusting, craving for something new - one that doesn't require face masks or anything that can make even just a day less harder than it is already.

It took me a while to jump in on the idea of a photoshoot through video call, even though I saw a couple of videos and articles about it online. I think part of me was hoping this would end soon. but then we all must stop waiting and start moving forward - hence last July 2020 "Wireless Fidelity" was created.

“Wireless Fidelity” is a series of Portraits done thru the video messaging application ZOOM.
